MOST RECENTLY...
Indivisible members were introduced to the sole Democratic candidate for NM’s District 2 congressional seat at our Oct. 20 zoom meeting.  Gabe Vasquez, who is already well-known in Las Cruces as a former City counselor and as an aide to Sen. Martin Heinrich.  His talk, however, focused on his hands-on involvement in community programs including housing for the homeless, urban revitalization and public lands conservation. He gave the members plenty of time to ask questions, most of which pertained to the CD2 contest and how he plans to defeat first-term Congresswoman Yvette Herrell. He emphasized that unlike Herrell, a Trump acolyte and oil industry loyalist, he is a proponent of progressive values that meet the economic and social needs in Southern New Mexico.

Now a month into his campaign, he says he is working to build a staff of volunteers in every county in the district.  He also said he won’t have a clear idea of district boundaries until after the redistricting committee’s decision in December. In the meantime, he has been busy meeting with small groups throughout Southern New Mexico and collecting endorsements.
